The Winnipeg Effect Project was a broad initiative by the CCCA to document the Winnipeg art scene over the 50-year period from 1967-2017, with the goal of increasing knowledge about Winnipeg artists and art institutions, and to examine the effect that Winnipeg's art scene has had on the art scene across Canada.

The Project displays more than 4,200 images of work by 50 prominent Winnipeg artists represented in the Artists Section of the Canadian Art Database, along with a Winnipeg Art Chronology and Timeline which presents more than 3,800 event references, images and texts documenting the art exhibitions, art events and related activities that took place in Winnipeg between 1967-2017.

The Winnipeg Art Chronology, which can be viewed as a whole, or by individual institutional chronologies, focuses on the exhibitions and events of 22 institutions, and is illustrated by more than 1,800 exhibition invitations; catalogues; reviews; slides, photographs and digital images that were assembled from Winnipeg art institutions, archives, artists, and members of the public.

I would like to thank all the artists and galleries who have contributed materials for the Chronology — with special thanks to Cliff Eyland for providing access to his important work in documenting Gallery One One One exhibitions at the School of Art, and to Myron Turner for access to his early documentary project MBVAN [The Manitoba Visual Arts Network].
