Biography (English): Winston Leathers RCA studied Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and at the Manitoba Teachers College where he majored in Art Education. During this period, he had the opportunity to study and paint in Mexico and at the University of British Columbia. From 1958-68 Winston taught basic design at the Winnipeg Technical Vocational High School and then joined the staff of Environmental Studies in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, where he was appointed full Professor in 1989. A painter and printmaker, Winston spent his career expanding the limits of his artistic disciplines. He was heavily involved with the architectural application of sand-blasted glass and stained glass, which resulted in numerous public and private commissions. His diverse interests also led to experimentation with ceramics, photography and colour laser prints. Winston’s work was exhibited across Canada, in the United States, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, France, Monaco, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Japan - including solo exhibitions in Mexico City, Canada House in London, the Memorial Art Gallery in St. John’s, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. His work is represented in major public and corporate collections across the country, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Canada Council Art Bank, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The CCCA Winnipeg Artists Project was generously supported by the Winnipeg Foundation, with additional research support from the Heritage Grants Program, Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism.
Biography (French): Winston Leathers ARC a étudié les beaux-arts à l'Université du Manitoba et au Manitoba Teachers College où il s'est spécialisé en éducation artistique. Durant cette période, il a l'occasion d'étudier et de peindre au Mexique et à l'Université de la Colombie-Britannique.
