Biography (English): After service in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1962-65, Jim Hansen graduated from Kent State University, Ohio, in 1969, with a major in studio arts and a double minor in biology and chemistry. He moved to Newfoundland in 1970 and became senior technician at the School of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. Hansen has exhibited across Canada and the United States and has had his films shown in Brussels. In addition to being part of the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labradors Permanent Collection, his art work can be found in major public collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Canada Council Art Bank and the Museum of Modern Art.
Biography (French): Après avoir servi dans le corps médical de l'armée américaine de 1962 à 1965, Jim Hansen est diplômé de la Kent State University, Ohio, en 1969, avec une spécialisation en arts de studio et une double mineure en biologie et chimie. Il a déménagé à Terre-Neuve en 1970 et est devenu technicien supérieur à l'École de médecine de l'Université Memorial de Terre-Neuve. Hansen a exposé partout au Canada et aux États-Unis et ses films ont été projetés à Bruxelles. En plus de faire partie de la collection permanente du Musée des beaux-arts de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, ses œuvres se retrouvent dans d'importantes collections publiques, notamment celles du Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, de la Banque d'œuvres d'art du Conseil des Arts du Canada et du Musée d'art moderne.
