Claire Beaulieu

Biography (English): Claire Beaulieu holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal. The artist has attended several professional workshops in France, the United States and Mexico. She has received numerous grants from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts and has been chosen to participate in various international artists residencies, including the prestigious Villa Montalvo in California. She also spent a year at the Québec Studio in Basel, Switzerland. Many solo exhibitions of her work have been presented in Québec and Canada, in Chicago, San Francisco and at the Roswell Museum in New-Mexico. Her work has also figured in duo and group shows in New York, Mexico, Paris, Basel, Montréal and elsewhere. The artist has created works as part of Quebec’s 1% policy for public art. Her work has been the focus of various publications including 25th Anniversary Edition of New Glass Review published by the Corning Museum of Glass (New York State). Her works have been acquired by many public and private collections in Canada and abroad.

L'artiste a suivi plusieurs ateliers professionnels en France, aux États-Unis et au Mexique. Elle a reçu de nombreuses bourses du Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec et du Conseil des Arts du Canada et a été choisie pour participer à diverses résidences d'artistes internationaux, dont la prestigieuse Villa Montalvo en Californie. Brian Boigon

Biography (English): Brian Boigon is an Artist/Data-Architect and Philosopher. His works span a multitude of operational disciplines including Quantum Mechanics, Locomotive Dynamical Systems, Science Fiction, Cartoon Animation and the ballet of Computational Script hacking. He is an Associate Professor at John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto where he also runs the Inner Outer Space Lab and sits on the board of the Toronto MOCA. Boigon is currently working on “The Magic of Membranes” through Drawing/Writing/Movies and Music under a Sci-fi project known as The Interopera. He continues to explore the dimensions of his Ordinary and Non-ordinary Reality as its bank-shot through the non-linearity of Framing, Looping and Projecting. He is published by Birkhauser in a digital/analogue book on NonLinear Urbanism and is working on a sound/video project forthcoming in NYC. Boigon’s artwork is in numerous collections, published in 4 books and is in the archives at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal.

Edward Burtynsky

Biography (English): Edward Burtynsky RCA is a Canadian photographer. Burtynsky's photographs are included in the collections of over 80 major museums around the world, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa; the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York; the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid; the Tate Modern in London, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California. Burtynsky received his BAA in Photography/Media Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in 1982, and has since received both an Alumni Achievement Award (2004) and an Honorary Doctorate (2007) from his alma mater. He is still actively involved in the university community, and sits on the board of directors for The Image Centre (formerly Ryerson Image Centre). In 1985, Burtynsky founded Toronto Image Works, a darkroom rental facility, custom photo laboratory, digital imaging, and new media computer-training centre catering to all levels of Toronto's art community. Exhibitions include: Anthropocene (2018) at the Art Gallery of Ontario and National Gallery of Canada (international touring exhibition); Water (2013) at the New Orleans Museum of Art and Contemporary Art Center in Louisiana (international touring exhibition); Oil (2009) at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. Geneviève Cadieux

Biography (English): Geneviève Cadieux is a photographer. Often cinematic, she incorporates audiovisual elements into her large-scale installations. Cadieux’s work explores topics of identity, gender, and the human body. She presents the body as a landscape, focusing on small details (such as a mouth, bruise, or scar) in extreme close-ups. Cadieux is also interested in the way that art integrates into the urban environment. Many of her works are currently installed in public spaces. Cadieux received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Ottawa. Although she originally studied painting, a chance course in university introduced her to photography. Cadieux now works as an associate professor in the Studio Arts Department at Concordia University. Cadieux began participating in international art exhibitions in the 1980s. She has represented Canada at major biennales in Montreal, São Paulo, and Venice. In 1993, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal held the first critical retrospective devoted to Cadieux’s work, featuring pieces like Memory Gap, an Unexpected Beauty, 1988 She is a winner of the 2011 Governor General’s Award for Visual and Media Arts and the 2018 Prix Paul-Émile Borduas.

Notable public exhibits include ‘Shifting Sites’, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography [& its traveling exhibit in collaboration with The National Gallery of Canada], ‘The Language of Nature’ at the Canadian Museum of Nature, Ottawa, ‘Beyond Science’ in Barcelona, Spain, and ‘Grand Shadows’ and the commissioned thematic ‘Parochial Views' (Parlance No. 4) for the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. Cathy Daley

Biography (English): Cathy Daley was a Canadian visual artist and educator. Daley earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Ontario College of Art (OCA) (1973–74) and studied at the Art's Sake Inc (1979–80). She was an associate professor at OCAD University in the Faculty of Art, where she began teaching drawing and painting in 1988. Many of Daley's significant artworks are included in her Little Black Dress series (2001), Power Dressing Fashion series (2003), and Dance series (2009). Her works have been exhibited in Canada and internationally since 1980, in galleries such as the Project Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, The Power Plant, the Southern Alberta Gallery, the Museum Dhondt Dhaenens, and Mercer Union. Daley's work investigates childhood memories and explores how women are represented through image and language in modern Western culture. Her artwork draws inspiration from this imagery and her resulting drawings are almost exclusively black pastel and charcoal on translucent vellum that reveal "disembodied gowns, tutus and billowy party frocks..."

Biography (English): Marnie Fleming has a Masters degree in Art History from the University of British Columbia. She has worked at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC (1981-1986), and Museum London, London, ON (1986-1991). Since 1991 she has been the Curator of Contemporary Art at Oakville Galleries where she has developed a curatorial practice that represents a long-term experiment with the trajectory of site-specific projects within a suburban community. Her research places value on understanding the relationships between identity and the interplay of space/place. Fleming has organized over 200 exhibitions, interventions, and outdoor projects. The recipient of grants and writing awards, she has contributed numerous catalogue essays and articles on issues of photography, installation art, and new media practices. In addition to recent publications for Oakville Galleries are those produced for the National Gallery of Canada: Is there a there there? (2007) and Angela Grauerholz: The Inexhaustible Image (2010). Fleming was selected as the Ontario juror for the 2011 Sobey Art Awards.
