Peter Day
Peter Day was a curator, journalist, artist, art consultant and collector in Toronto from 1976 to 1990. Day was managing director of the Mira Godard Gallery, Toronto, from 1977 to 1983, when he co-chaired the Canadian Special Committee for the Arts (the Macaulay Committee), and was also a member of the City of Toronto Public Art Commission, as well as visual arts reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's radio programme State of the Arts, an associate editor of Canadian Art magazine and editor of Impulse magazine, and a public art consultant for several Toronto building projects He wrote two books published by Summerhill Press: Canada's Gigantic with photographer Henri Robideau, and Art in Everyday Life with Linda Lewis. He was also a collector of the works of concrete poets, whom he promoted through writing and exhibition. Peter Day died in Toronto in 1990. His papers consist of over 2000 items, monographs, limited edition books and artists books, drawings, posters, prints, cards, boxes, wrappers, video tape recordings, and various small sculptures. It is housed at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery on the campus of the University of British Columbia.
