Judith Doyle

Judith Doyle is an artist and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Art at OCAD University where she presently serves as Chair of First Year Experience. Doyle’s practice includes filmmaking, writing and publication; her films have premiered at TIFF and screened internationally. In 2012, Judith Doyle received the OCAD University Award for Distinguished Research and Creative Activity, recognizing her collaboration with neuropsychologist Brian Richards at the Memory Link program at Baycrest, incorporating art and design elements in memory supports for clients with acquired brain injuries. Widely recognized as a pioneer in artists' teleculture, Doyle was a founding member of Worldpool, an artist-run global community communications hub in pre-Internet form. GestureCloud is Doyle’s collaboration with Beijing-based artist Fei Jun, who in 2019 represented China at the Venice Biennial. GestureCloud used motion capture and virtual worlds to investigate how factory labour and gesture move between China and North America. Doyle presently Co-directs the Social Media and Collaboration Lab (SMACLab) with Dr. David McIntosh, and oversees the Unreal Club, focusing on AR/VR workshops, collaborations and art creation tools (software modifications, computer files, interface systems) including depth cameras, game engines and photogrammetry. In 2019, Judith Doyle presented her research at the Warner Media Center NYC as a guest of the Volumetric Filmmakers Society of New York, and at the Athens School of Fine Arts in Greece and the International Symposium of Electronic Arts (ISEA 2019) in Gwangju, Korea; this creative activity was supported by the Ontario Arts Council.
