Anne-Marie Cosgrove

Anne-Marie Cosgrove was born in Montréal, Québec and is recognized for her formalist line and text-based paintings. Anne-Marie Cosgrove holds an MFA degree in painting from York University in 1989. Cosgrove’s work challenges traditional painting norms, focusing on text and cursive writing to communicate with her painting. Her work is characterized by a poetic spontaneity and an interest in combining disparate motifs from pop culture and everyday life, using a playful free associative process. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the US and abroad, including solo and group shows with CMS Art Projects, Red Head Gallery and the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto) Canada, Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle, US; Ars Coco in Spain and PADA Gallery in Portugal. Solo projects include the SELECT Art Fair in Miami and the POOL Art Fair in NYC. Her work has been reviewed in numerous publications, including Canadian Art Magazine, Blouin Art Info, Arts Observer, tasj magazine, Matriart: A Canadian Feminist Art Journal and has been recognized with numerous awards by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. The artist's work is part of public and private collections in Canada, the US and abroad. Anne-Marie Cosgrove lives and works in Toronto, Ontario and Nova Scotia, Canada.
