Description: This series of nine reliefs was based on ‘Metopes’, the square reliefs that form part of the narrative frieze above the columns of a Doric order Greek temple. Those reliefs presented the great narratives about the deeds of their gods. The subjects of these reliefs are rather more enigmatic.

Beginning with photographic images gleaned from such diverse sources as fashion magazines, film clips and advertising images, a small ‘glimpse’ was extracted using a square frame as a cropping device. The choice of which ‘glimpse’ to use was almost always dictated by a desire to suggest alternate readings. In some cases other images were combined to build further layers to the possible readings.

The nine reliefs were installed in an exhibition entitled ‘Metopia’ at the Edward Day Gallery, Toronto in November 2004.
