Gun Play

Description: This work documents my performance of trying to lasso something with a lariat. What I am trying to capture is left a mystery. The video is edited in slow motion with a close-up of my face going in and out of the frame. My voice is also in slow motion, and is heard as a deep roar when I temporarily bend over to release the rope and leave the picture frame, giving an impression this may not be my voice, but that of another -- perhaps the object of capture.

Some of the monitors depict close-ups of the eyes, hands and body of Tom Bishop the knife thrower, other monitors reveal whole and fragmented parts of myself performing as the knife thrower's assistant. Instead of hearing songs by Tammy Wynette or Hank Williams, you will hear stories of "love gone wrong" by artists and other notable persons. Like the familiar voices of Johnny Cash or Elvis, you may recognize some of the storytellers; however none of the recording artists' names are listed in the jukebox playlist. Recordings are selected by depositing coins in the jukebox and choosing a title.
